There’s nothing better than crawling into a bed made with freshly washed sheets or using a towel that smells like it came straight from the dryer. My love for that fresh, clean scent is why I love making this DIY linen spray. It keeps blankets, pillows, couches, and curtains fresh between washes, and its so easy to create!

When I started this natural wellness journey, the most difficult part was giving up all of the wonderful scents in store bought candles, laundry detergent, soaps, and linen sprays. I couldn’t ignore the facts when I learned about the synthetic chemicals in these products and the way they negatively impact our health. I’m passionate about cultivating a healthy lifestyle, and that involves more than eating well and moving your body. You have to look at what you’re breathing in and applying to your skin as well. Luckily, there are so many non-toxic alternatives to the products I once loved, and this DIY linen spray is one of the best!
Another homemade and natural product I love is this DIY Foaming Hand Soap. It’s another quick and easy product to make at home to save money and minimize your exposure to toxins!
Why Homemade Linen Spray?
To elaborate on the paragraph above: linen spray, hairspray, and cooking oil sprays have to come out of their cans by way of aerosol propellants. Synthetic fragrance oils can lead to hormone imbalance and often contain known carcinogens. The world we live in is heavily polluted, so creating natural products at home is one way to minimize your exposure to toxins.

DIY Linen Spray Ingredients
Distilled water: to minimize risk of bacteria and mold growth
20 drops Essential oils: see list of scent combinations below!
1/2 tsp Witch hazel: Oil and water naturally separate when combined. Witch hazel is added to the linen spray to help distribute the scent of the essential oils. It also helps the aroma linger on your linens for longer periods of time! If you don’t have witch hazel, you could also use vodka or baking soda. You also have the option to leave it out all together as long as you shake the bottle well before each spray.
Amber spray bottle: The dark amber bottle protects photosensitive essential oils from light. This recipe makes enough to fill a 2 oz spray bottle. Adjust the ingredients according to the bottle size you have on hand.
Funnel: This is optional, but makes pouring into the amber bottle much easier!

How to Make Homemade Linen Spray
Step 1: Pour the witch hazel (or baking soda or vodka) into the amber spray bottle.
Step 2: Add in 20 drops of essential oils, cap the bottle, and shake to combine. Allow this mixture to infuse for 15 minutes.
Step 3: Fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water and shake again.
Step 4: Shake well before each use to ensure even distribution of essential oils.
Step 5: Spritz your DIY linen spray, sit back, and enjoy the aroma!
